Beauty for Ashes

We bring nothing of ourselves to the Gospel. Left alone we lie dead and dull in our own sin and rebellion. BUT GOD chooses something else for us! Life for death, joy for mourning, praise for despair – His beauty for our ashes… (Isaiah 61:3)

Isaiah 61 provides the context for our four week September 2018 series. While the Hebrew community languished in Babylonian captivity, the people sat in ash as symbol of their pain and sorrow. But they were not forgotten! For in the midst of their hopelessness God promised an exchange of the ashes for the grace of His beauty…Beauty for Ashes! For sinners like you and me, lost and completely unable to save ourselves from dead-set rebellion against God, there may not be a more hopeful phrase we could utter.

GraceCity, our church in Baltimore weaves together people whom God meets in the ashes, turning our lives into something beautiful – something He calls His “Church”. Join us as we look deeply into the Scriptures to discover and live out the wondrous alignment of the Gospel message with our mission in Baltimore – His beauty, for our ashes.

“BUT GOD, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ…” (Eph. 2:4-5)
