Uncomfortable – Come to the Table

Does our church make you uncomfortable?

If not, perhaps we are missing out on something.

It’s common to long for a church that sings just the right songs at just the right volume before the pastor preaches just the right sermon to a room filled with just the right people who agree on just about everything. We desire a culture of comfort. And we want Church to be comfortable like that.

Following Jesus however, is something else entirely…uncomfortable. And it follows that Church will be uncomfortable as well.

Are you willing to embrace the discomfort and awkward requirements in order to “come to the table” with peculiar people in common pursuit of Jesus? Are you willing to open the door to the possibility that “whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ”? (Philippians 3:7)

If so this series is for you. It will demand more of you. It will emphasize the importance of covenant and commitment over comfort and coziness. It will underline the costliness of the Cross and the challenge of life lived in community. It may be uncomfortable – but it will be worth it – because on the other side of discomfort we find our delight and the power of His resurrection…together in Christ. (Philippians 3:10)
